Vanessa Bird joins the Australian Institute of Architects Venice Biennale Committee (VBC). The VBC is the governing body for the Institue's exhibition and is responsible for selecting the creative directors.

The Curator of the 18th International Architecture Exhibition, Lesley Lokko's title and theme of the Biennale Architettura 2023 is The Laboratory of the Future. Australia's exhibition "Unsettling Queenstown" will address decolonisation, and showcase design tactics architects can employ in their projects.

The Institute says: 'The Biennale is one of the oldest and most prestigious international exhibitions of architecture, showcasing leaders in contemporary design and architecture from around the world. The Biennale is a unique opportunity to reach non-traditional and underserved audiences. The Institute, through its Venice Biennale Committee, aims to engage these audiences in Venice and through local outreach activities associated with the exhibition.'

The exhibition opens to the public from 20 May -26 November 2023. Photo: Tom Roe
