Life Fellow - Australian Institute of Architects

Vanessa Bird was awarded Life Fellowship to the AIA in November 2022 for her 'outstanding contribution to the profession and the practice of architecture' at the 2022 Gala at the Plaza Ballroom in front of 600 colleagues. Her contribution to the AIA includes Victorian Chapter President 2016-2018, Board of Directors 2018-20, National Councillor 2016-20 and current Board Member of Architecture Media.
Advocating for recognition and inclusion of First Nation's people, as a National Councillor Vanessa authored the National Reconciliation Action Plan board paper. Upon its approval she selected members for the inaugural First Nations Working Group and Cultural Advisory Group. She Chaired the Digital Communications Steering Group which oversaw a significant transformation of the Institute's Digital Platform and public presence. The award also recognises the work of Bird de la Coeur Architects particularly in social housing.
Vanessa thanks the Institute for the recognition, and the practice for their support. Congratulations to the 5 other recipients of Life Fellowship.

Carbon Neutral Certification - again

Our Carbon Neutral Audit for FY2021 is complete and we are proudly Certificed Carbon Neutral, again.
Always trying to do better, this year we reduced our electricity consumption by 49% through behavioural change, and reduced our travel footprint by 57% after switching to online meetings whenever possible.
After committing to Architects Declare in 2020 we completed a 3 step process:
1. We commissioned a NoCo2 audit with the Carbon Neutral Institute to measure our carbon footprint
2. Switched to 100% Green Power, no fossil fuels and offset with credits from Biomass with India Clean Energy
3. We committed to annual audits of our emissions.

Victorian Premier’s Design Awards

Vanessa Bird Chairs the Architectural Design Jury for the 2021 Premier's Design Awards. This year the Awards celebrate their 25th Anniversary and were presented during Melbourne Design Week at the NGV. Established by the Victorian Government in 1996, the Victorian Premier’s Design Awards are an opportunity to highlight and celebrate local design capability.
